Jose Enrique rules out playing for England

Jose Enrique has admitted that his Liverpool team-mates are encouraging him to play for England after being ignored by Spain, The Daily Mail reports.

The Spanish left-back has been in excellent form since his arrival from Newcastle United in the summer. That form has prompted claims for Spain coach Vicente del Bosque to call Enrique up for international duty, but the call has not come. Enrique has been advised to put himself forward for British citizenship and declare his availability for England.

Enrique himself has ruled out any chance of him playing for England and is dedicated to playing for Spain. The left-back has stated that it is either Spain or nobody when it comes down to international duty and he is focused on playing well for Liverpool at the moment. Valencia left-back Jordi Alba is currently in front of Enrique at the moment.

‘Some team-mates have told me to apply for British citizenship, but I’m not thinking about doing that, because I’m Spanish and I’ll either play for Spain or nobody. I want to play for Spain. Playing for a club like Liverpool makes you think you’ll have more chance of representing your country, but it is Vicente Del Bosque who decides’, Enrique said.
