Lampard linked with Real Madrid swap deal

Frank Lampard has been linked with a move away from Chelsea to Spanish giants Real Madrid in a swap deal, according to Metro.

Lampard is again expected to be on the bench for tonight’s crunch match with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Andre Villas-Boas preferred Raul Meireles to Lampard against Valencia in the Champions League last week and could do the same tonight against the Premier League leaders. The England international could see the Bernabeu as an ideal destination and linking up with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may become inviting for Lampard, if he remains on the bench until January.

Chelsea will be looking to bring in young Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero in exchange for Lampard. The 24 year old has attracted attention from Arsenal and Liverpool and will be used as a makeweight in the deal. Mourinho has tried twice already to sign Lampard, once while at Inter and once in his time at Real Madrid, but believes that he has another golden chance to bring in the midfielder.

Lampard is now 33 and could fancy one last big move to the Spanish giants, just like David Beckham and Michael Owen have done before him. The Chelsea midfielder’s future could be decided on whether he is picked for tonight’s fixture against City. Chelsea must win this game or face the possibility of being dumped out of the title race before the New Year. A loss would put the Blues 13 points behind Roberto Mancini’s side.
