Lampard linked with Spurs Modric swap deal

According to The Sunday Mirror, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard could be used as bait in a deal to sign Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.

The Blues made three bids for Modric in the summer and all of them were spurned by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. However, Chelsea are refusing to give up on the Croatian and will make another move in January. Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas is a big fan of the Croatian and is looking to different alternatives as a way of securing the deal. Lampard could come as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Spurs with the England international falling out of favour with Villas-Boas. Lampard missed a penalty and was hauled off after 60 minutes by the Blues boss in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.

Redknapp is Lampard’s uncle and could offer the midfielder an escape from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are also prepared to use Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka as bait to secure a deal for Modric. Redknapp himself has been on record to state that he is uninterested in losing Modric, but with the calibre of the players Chelsea are looking to offer, there is a distinct possibility that a January transfer could be on.
