Lampard still eyeing first-team spot

Frank Lampard hit the winning goal against Manchester City last night and defiantly nailed his Chelsea colours to the mast, The Sun reports.

Lampard was benched once again for the fixture against the league leaders, but came on to hit the winner from the penalty spot with eight minutes to go. The 33 year old has fallen behind in the Chelsea pecking order and rumours had been rife that he would make a move to either London rivals Spurs or Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The England international insisted that he is going nowhere and wants to play until his contract runs out in 18 months time. Lampard admitted his frustrations with his lack of first-team action, but vowed to help Chelsea back into the title race. The win for the Blues lifted them up to third and just seven points behind City in the Premier League.

‘I know I’ve got a lot to give. I’ve 18 months left on my contract and I’ll be here for that long and keep trying my hardest. It’s not easy when you’re not playing. I want to play. I was on a good run of form, I was scoring regularly and playing pretty well and now I’m in and out, but what can you do? I’m 33 – I understand, but I want to play regularly for this club’, Lampard said.
