Liverpool angry as Suarez banned for eight games

Liverpool have reacted furiously to the Luis Suarez verdict over racist remarks made to Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, Press Association reports.

Suarez has been banned for eight games by the Football Association and has been issued with a £40,000 fine. The allegations relate to the 15th October fixture, where Suarez and Evra got into a heated debate mid-game. Evra then accused the Uruguayan of racism and the French defender claims that he was abused more than 10 times. The Reds have revealed their opinion that the FA were ‘determined’ to find Suarez guilty and that he hasn’t received a fair hearing. The club were stunned that the lengthy ban was imposed just on Evra’s testimony.

A statement read: ‘It appears to us that the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.’

It continued: ‘We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play, including Evra’s own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials, heard the alleged conversation between the two players’.
