Liverpool are ready to compete with Manchester United and Chelsea for the signature of Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The Reds’ midfield resources have been stretched in recent times, with both Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva suffering lengthy injury spells.
Now, manager Kenny Dalglish is reportedly hoping to bolster his squad with the signing of Tiote, and is preparing a £25 million bid.
The Ivorian international joined the Magpies from FC Twente for £3.5 million in August 2010 and has gone on to become a key player in Alan Pardew’s side.
If he were to make the switch to Anfield, he would follow in the footsteps of former teammates Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique, who have both moved from Newcastle to Liverpool in recent times.
