Manchester City are leading the chase to sign Croatian talents Sime Vrsaljiko and Mateo Kovacic, according to The
The two youngsters have enhanced their reputations by playing for Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this season and scouts from around Europe have been in attendance. Kovacic is only 17 and has attracted the most attention with Real Madrid interested. Dinamo are unwilling to accept less than £25m for the pair and denied Arsenal’s offer of £15m last January. Dinamo executive Zdravko Mamic was in England for talks about the players last week along with his son Mateo, who is the agent for both players.
The Croatian side are prepared to sell their prized assets, but only for healthy amounts of money. 19 year old Vrsaljiko is close to clinching his move to the Etihad Stadium, but City are keen to strike a double deal. Vrsaljiko can also play at left back and is expected to go to Euro 2012 with Croatia this coming summer. Kovacic has been compared to Lionel Messi in recent weeks and plays similarly to current City playmaker David Silva.
The 17 year old is Dinamo’s youngest ever captain and last season, he became the youngest debutant in the Croatian league. City are eager to strike a deal for both players and could have them in the squad in the New Year, should negotiations work.
