Man Utd coach backing club youth system

Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen believes that the club are benefiting from the youth system implemented, manutd.com reports.

The Dutchman has brought his philosophy of teaching schoolboys hard work when they are at Carrington and the benefits are showing. Meulensteen was fortunate to work with Will Coerver in the 1990’s, who implemented the Coerver method, and United are benefiting. Meulensteen also believes that the importance of educating the children about the right way to play stands both them and the club in good stead.

Meulensteen said: ‘I worked with Will myself and I was very fortunate to do that. That provided the background, the basis of the philosophy which I’ve taken on board and expanded it. I’m just a very strong believer in it, because the best players out there in the world have given us that information.

‘In the beginning, the kids are young and just respond to the environment you create for them. They don’t know what is good or bad, they just enjoy it or hate it. It is, more and more, an exciting time for me. It’s started with Welbeck and Cleverley, because, when I came in, they were 10 or 11. Now they’ve featured in the first team’, the United coach added.
