Manchester United are eyeing a January swoop for Bolton defender Gary Cahill as they look to replace the injured Nemanja Vidic, The
Vidic ruptured his cruciate knee ligament in the Champions League loss to Basel last week and United’s fears have been confirmed. The Serbian is out for the rest of the season and United are looking to bring in a replacement for while Vidic is on the treatment table. Cahill is looking to move from the Reebok Stadium and United could be a late option.
The Bolton defender would be able to stay in the same house he lives in and just make the short switch across Lancashire. Bolton fans would be appalled if Cahill chose to move to one of their hated rivals, but the defender is looking to win the Premier League and feels he can do that with United. The 25 year old is out of contract at the end of the season and a cut-price deal could be on offer for the Premier League champions in January.
Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea have all shown keen interest in the defender, but the valuation placed on Cahill’s head has stopped any move materialising. With Chris Smalling and Phil Jones being deployed in different positions, along with the worries about Rio Ferdinand’s fitness, Cahill could be the ideal solution to United’s current defensive nightmare.
