Man Utd linked with January move for Ajax star

Manchester United have identified Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen as their January transfer target, according to The Daily Mail.

Eriksen has been lighting up Europe with his impressive performances for the Dutch side and has also attracted interest from Liverpool. The 19 year old Dane has long been a target for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and the Premier League champions are ready to make a move. United have been drawn against Ajax in the Europa League last 32 and if Eriksen is not signed in January, United fans will get a good glimpse of the midfielder in February.

The 19 year old has a contract until 2014 with Ajax and United are prepared to burst the bank for Eriksen. A midfield crisis has developed at Old Trafford with injuries to Tom Cleverley and Anderson, as well as a chronic bowel disorder for Darren Fletcher, leaving them short. United have been lacking creativity in midfield and Ferguson sees Eriksen as the big transfer. United coach Rene Meulensteen has spoken over a move and has played down any talks of a move for the Danish international.

Meulensteen said: ‘This is a player that is on our radar. But that is to be expected. If people weren’t looking, no-one would ever have an opinion on these players. It is true that a player like Eriksen would fit our transfer policy. He is being strongly linked with us, but to suggest that we are about to make a move is not true’.
