Man Utd made summer move for Handanovic

Italian tv channel Rai is reporting that Manchester United wanted to sign Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in the summer transfer window.

The Slovenian goalkeeper is highly rated across Europe and the Premier League champions were watching Handanovic with a view to signing him. United in the end signed David De Gea from Atletico Madrid after missing out on Manuel Neuer, who signed for Bayern Munich.

Handanovic’s agent, Federico Pastorello, said: ‘Samir was on the wish lists of two great clubs. Bayern Munich and Manchester United were keen, but they decided otherwise. Although these doors have now closed, I’m sure Samir will have other opportunities in the future’.

United recently dropped De Gea for the Villa weekend and replaced him with Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard. Both goalkeepers are contending for the number one United jersey and De Gea is hoping to regain his place for the trip to Basel.
