Mata has not ruled out Chelsea title challenge

Chelsea winger Juan Mata believes that two successive wins for Chelsea in the Premier League gives them the confidence to challenge for the Premier League title, ESPN reports.

Mata helped his new club beat his old side Valencia on Tuesday night 3-0 to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has come under scrutiny after a poor start to the season, but has fired back by helping the Blues to successive wins. The Spanish international believes the Blues are not out of the title race yet and could mount a serious challenge given their recent performances.

‘There are so many weeks until the Premier League finishes and we will keep going every week to win and to be closer to first place. Have we answered the critics? Yes, with the win against Valencia and the last game at Newcastle. These two games have given us more confidence and we have to train this week very well to play against City. That is a very important game for us as well’, Mata said.

The Spanish international also praised the work of striker Didier Drogba, who scored twice against Valencia in midweek. Mata believes Drogba is superb and is hopeful the club can sort out the current contract negotiations between Drogba and Chelsea.
