Per Mertesacker has assured Arsenal fans that he can go from strength to strength if given time at the Emirates Stadium, The
The tall German international has taken time to settle since his £8m move from Werder Bremen in the summer. Mertesacker now has 11 Premier League starts under his belt and the 27 year old believes he is starting to become accustomed to English football. Mertesacker is a boyhood Arsenal fan and jumped at the chance to sign for Arsene Wenger’s side when the Frenchman came calling.
Mertesacker has cited the speed and physical power differences as the main things the Premier League betters the Bundesliga in. The German international says he will deal with his faults and has asked Gunners fans to be patient until next season, when he can get a pre-season with the club and connect better.
‘I am feeling good and I think that is the best thing. It was quite a short time for me to settle in and make the transfer happen. If you have no pre-season with the team, then that makes it more difficult.
‘People think it’s easy to connect with your club, your team-mates, but it takes time. It’s getting better and better and hopefully I can keep improving now. Let me play a season and you can get (the full picture) of my personality and my ability as a footballer’, Mertesacker said.
