Park insists Man Utd must win despite injury problems

Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung insists that his side have to carry on through their injury crisis to challenge for the title, The Guardian reports.

The South Korean international has revealed that he has never known anything like it in his career and United ended the game against Wigan with 11 first team players injured. Park scored the opening goal against the Latics on Boxing Day and believes his side have the capabilities to continue playing well, but the injuries are a worry. Michael Carrick and Patrice Evra were United’s central defensive partnership at the end of the Wigan game and Sir Alex Ferguson also operated Antonio Valencia at right back during the game. Park has seen his side go on an impressive run of eight wins in nine games and the industrial midfielder knows they can overtake Manchester City at the top of the table.

Park said: ‘I have never known anything like it. Hopefully, we will get our defenders back pretty quickly because we are coming up to some very important games. We have to deal with it and get through this period.’

The South Korean’s fears were re-iterated by United defender Patrice Evra, who claimed that the problem is getting annoying. United are without Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and now Jonny Evans in defence. Despite these problems, the champions are level on points with City at the top of the table. The two sides go head-to-head in the third round of the FA Cup in January and a winner there could provide momentum for the rest of the season.
