Redknapp backs King to earn new Tottenham deal

Harry Redknapp has sung Ledley King’s praises and indicated that the 31-year-old central defender can do enough to win a new contract at the end of the season.

England international King is out of contract at Tottenham in June 2012, and previous reports have suggested that he will be awarded a contract extension only on the condition that he plays at least 20 games this season.

Speaking to The Sun, Redknapp said: “A few years ago it looked like he was going to retire but the way he’s come back this season has been just amazing. It’s no coincidence we haven’t lost a single match he’s played for us this season.

“We’ve won nine of our last ten games in the league, and the one game that we drew in that run was when Ledley had to come off injured at Newcastle.”
