Richards doubtful for Chelsea clash

Manchester City right-back Micah Richards remains a doubt for Monday’s trip to West London to face Chelsea, The Daily Mirror reports.

The right back is having a superb season and is on the cusp of England recognition with his performances both domestically and in Europe. Richards was ruled out of the club’s 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in midweek with a calf injury and may not shake off the problem in time for the trip to Chelsea. City hold a five point lead over second placed Manchester United and a victory in West London could put paid to Chelsea’s title chances.

Stefan Savic, primarily a central defender, played at right back in place of the absent Richards in midweek and could be in line for a recall. However, Argentinian defender Pablo Zabaleta is back fit and is expected to slot in at right-back. Aleksandar Kolarov is still injured with a groin problem, so Gael Clichy will retain his place at left-back.

City have a good track record at Stamford Bridge over recent years, but were beaten 2-0 last season thanks to goals from Didier Drogba and David Luiz. Mancini’s side will look to show more class this time around and come away with a vital victory in their pursuit of a first Premier League title.
