Suarez was subject to chants of ‘cheat’ by the Fulham fans on Monday night as Liverpool lost 1-0 to Clint Dempsey’s goal for the Cottages. Riise played against the Reds for the first time since he left to join Roma and believes that Suarez can handle both the cheat allegations and the racism allegations that have surrounded him.
The Norwegian defender believes all Premier League defenders fear the Uruguayan’s quality and that he has the mental toughness to handle whatever is thrown towards him. Riise spent seven years at Anfield and became a firm fans’ favourite.
‘He (Suarez) is mentally very strong. He has proved he’s a great player and sometimes people get tough on him, because that is the way some people have to play against him. If you try to be nice to him, he can kill the game off. You have to be tough against him’, Riise said.
