Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu is already eyeing a return to Spanish giants Barcelona, despite arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer, The
Romeu has earned a starting berth in the Blues midfield and has impressed with his tough-tackling performances. The 20 year old is ahead of John Obi Mikel and Andre Villas-Boas is impressed with the confidence Romeu has on the field. However, Barcelona have a buy-back option at the end of the season and are impressed with the way Romeu has played.
The Blues have refuted Barcelona’s claims, stating that the Catalan giants only have first refusal if Chelsea are willing to sell. Romeu’s agent, Javier Magico Diaz, has stated that his client still dreams of playing for Barcelona one day. However, the midfielder will not turn his back on Chelsea and it may be better for him to play until 2013 before returning to Spain.
Diaz said: ‘Will Romeu return? His dream before leaving was to be a Barcelona player and that still stands, but we cannot ignore the opportunity Chelsea have provided. We’ll have to see if it’s appropriate for the club and the player (to return to Barca). We need to know if he’ll keep developing at Chelsea and playing. Maybe it will be more convenient to stay for another year and then return in 2013.’
