Skrtel calls for concentration over festive period

Martin Skrtel has called on his Liverpool teammates to continue their excellent form against Wigan tonight, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

The Reds, however, have not won at Wigan since September 2007 and have suffered one defeat and two draws since. Skrtel has been at the core of a Liverpool defence that have provided the side with magnificent support. The Reds have been excellent on the road this season, winning nine away games in both the league and the Carling Cup. A trip to Wigan is the last away game for the Reds in 2011.

Skrtel believes the team’s focus is superb and they are ready to achieve the targets they have set. The Slovakian is expected to once again partner Daniel Agger in a back four that has the meanest defence in the league.

‘The Christmas period is very important for every single team and our aim is to get back maximum points from every game we play. You know you are always in for a difficult game when you play away against a team like Wigan, Stoke or Bolton, because they have a similar style of playing. We will have to fight hard to get the victory’, Skrtel said.
