Smalling thanks Fulham fans ahead of Man Utd game

Chris Smalling makes his return to Craven Cottage tonight and has thanked Fulham for his time in West London, The Independent reports.

The Manchester United defender is expected to start at right-back once again and has impressed this season. Fulham plucked Smalling from non-league Maidstone United and gave him his big break, which has subsequently seen him play for England. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been impressed with what Smalling has achieved at Old Trafford and the defender is content with life. Smalling has spoken about his time with Fulham and has praised former manager Roy Hodgson for believing in him.

‘Without (then manager) Roy Hodgson giving me my chance there, I wouldn’t be here, so it’s a time I look upon fondly. It’ll be nice to go back and see a few of the players and play back at the Cottage’, Smalling said.

The England defender has also spoken about United’s plans for the festive period and believes the Premier League champions are out to show they mean business. Smalling is expected to start at right back once again against Fulham and United look to follow on from their 2-0 win over QPR.
