Basel forward Marco Streller has lit the blue touchpaper ahead of their Champions League do-or-die tie with Manchester United at St. Jakob’s Park, The
Streller has accused the Premier League champions of showing Basel a lack of respect and not taking them seriously. An injury time equaliser from Ashley Young salvaged a point for United in the home tie with the Swiss side and Streller believes that United got a wake-up call at Old Trafford.
The Swiss international said: ‘You can never go into a game showing fear. Yes, we will show United respect, that is clear. When they took a 2-0 lead, it seemed to me they maybe didn’t take us seriously enough. But we know now they will take us seriously now, given the points we have taken in the group.’
United only need a point in Switzerland to ensure progression to the knockout phases and Streller believes all the pressure is focused on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Basel currently sit level on points with United, one point behind Portuguese side Benfica.
