Suarez banned for Fulham gesture

Luis Suarez will miss Liverpool’s game on Friday night against Newcastle United after being handed a one-match ban, The Guardian reports.

Suarez made an inappropriate gesture to Fulham fans during the 1-0 loss earlier this month. The Uruguayan is already facing an eight game ban subject to Liverpool’s appeal for his racist abuse towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. Suarez has been fined £20,000 for the gesture and the Football Association have warned him over his future conduct.

The Uruguayan admitted the charge against him for the gesture at Craven Cottage, but claimed the reason for his gesture was the Fulham fans constantly accusing him of cheating. Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish will move on from the minor incident and concentrate on clearing Suarez’s name from the racist abuse charges he faces. Liverpool immediately appealed the decision and if the striker is found guilty after appeal, an additional two games are expected to be added to the ban.

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is expected to start against his former side instead of Suarez and the loss of the Uruguayan could prove costly for the Reds. Dalglish wants his side to get into the Champions League football and without the impressive Uruguayan, they could struggle. The Reds were also fined £20,000 for failing to control their players at Craven Cottage following Jay Spearing’s red card.
