Van der Vaart wants Spurs to push on

Rafael van der Vaart believes that Tottenham must no longer measure themselves with other clubs in London and should start to forge their own dynasty, The Guardian reports.

The Dutchman stated earlier this season that he felt Spurs were the best team in London. It was hard to argue with him as Harry Redknapp’s side have embarked on a 12 game run that has seen just one loss in the league. They have fired themselves into the title race with Van der Vaart one of the key players for Spurs. The Dutchman revealed that when he moved to London from Real Madrid, the club were only interested in the fixture against Arsenal. Van der Vaart now feels they have changed their tune and are concentrating on the entire league, not just the North London derby.

Van der Vaart said: ‘When I came to Tottenham, the whole club was only talking about the game against Arsenal. Of course, Arsenal is the big team in London. We have a great squad and it’s not just about a game against Arsenal. That was the most positive thing I saw when we beat them this season. We were happy, but it was not like we had won the title or something. We won the game and that’s it.’

The 28 year old also revealed his burning ambitions to play in the Champions League once again and is desperate to push on with a Spurs side, who have ‘more confidence’. Van der Vaart is expected to start in Sunday’s fixture with Sunderland at White Hart Lane.
