Villas-Boas confirms Cahill talks to ease defensive problems

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that the club have had talks with Bolton Wanderers over the potential transfer of Gary Cahill to Stamford Bridge. The England international central defender is to be brought in to a squad who, due to injury, are depleted of defensive options.

Villas-Boas told the club’s Official Website: “Regarding what we are trying to do in central defence, we are trying to close a deal [for Gary Cahill] but I don’t think we will do much more than that, maybe one more player.”

The Portuguese manager also confirmed central defence is his main concern: “Central defence is our number one priority and we will try to solve it as soon as possible. We had initial talks with Bolton but that doesn’t mean he is our only target.”
