Chelsea have opened informal talks with goalkeeper Petr Cech over the possibility of signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge, ESPN
Cech’s current deal expires at the end of the season and reports had linked the Czech international with a move away from Stamford Bridge. The club are determined to keep the 29 year old and have rubbished such claims that boss Andre Villas-Boas wants Cech to leave the club. The Blues goalkeeper moved to Stamford Bridge in 2004 from French side Rennes and Villas-Boas wants Cech to play into his 40’s and make a decade of playing for Chelsea.
Villas-Boas said: ‘There are false stories about Petr Cech leaving the club. We are trying to reach an agreement with Petr. He knows that we are trying and that we are interested in renewing his contract.’
Questions had been raised over the goalkeeper’s future with the signing of 19 year old Thibault Courtois. Although the Belgian is regarded as a good goalkeeper for Chelsea’s future, the Blues are looking to keep Cech in goal for the long-term. Villas-Boas cited examples of Edwin van der Sar and Brad Friedel and believes Cech will be the same.
