Villas-Boas sets sights on Premier League title

Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed the seven point gap Manchester City now have over Chelsea, despite the Blues 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge last night, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Chelsea came from a goal behind to inflict City’s first defeat of the season. The winner came from a Frank Lampard penalty and lifted the Blues up to third place. A fortnight ago, Chelsea were 12 points off the pace and found themselves outside the top four. Villas-Boas has developed a siege mentality against the media, with some dismissing the club out of the title rice, and the Portuguese manager has again defended the quality of his players.

Villas-Boas said: ‘It changes a little bit our challenge for the Premier League. Seven points in this Premier League at the moment, with so many teams competing for the title, it’s nothing, We are competent, we believe in our title hopes, we believe in our title challenge’.

Chelsea travel to struggling Wigan next weekend and a win there will close the gap to four points before City play Arsenal the day after. Villas-Boas’ job security has increased with the last few results and Chelsea are steadily improving back to the levels they are capable of.
