Wenger admits Arsenal could buy in January

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he could browse the transfer market in search of new players if ‘an opportunity turns up’, The Daily Mail reports.

An on form Robin van Persie has helped fire Arsenal up to fifth in the Premier League after a disastrous start to the season. But with the African Cup of Nations approaching Wenger will have to do without strikers Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh, leaving the Gunners boss with very little backup for Van Persie.

The Frenchman has admitted that he is willing to spend if a new striker is required during the winter transfer window.

He said: “We lose players like Chamakh and Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations so hopefully, touch wood, we do not get any injuries to our strikers. But if an opportunity turns up in that department then we will buy.

Economically the whole environment has changed and people suffer more. The clubs will suffer more financially and it’s much more difficult. Maybe we will have some opportunities because we are in a good financial situation.”
