The Mail Online report that Arsene Wenger says it was painful selling his best players to Man City.
The Arsenal manager also said his club cannot compete with the mega wages the Sky Blues can offer the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure – who they sold two years ago – and Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy who they sold last summer.
The Frenchman said: “It is a decision where intelligence dominates your heart and you have to do the right thing for the club. But it is always painful to lose players at 24 years old, (Nasri)”
He added: “The financial difference between us and teams like Manchester City has become too big to hope to keep players for eight, nine or 10 years.”
