Arsene Wenger has condemned his Arsenal side for not taking their chances and says they lacked focus with a 1-1 draw against Wolves, The
Arsenal would have moved into fourth place with a win at the Emirates Stadium, but resilient Wolves held firm despite having 10 men for the last quarter of an hour. Wenger’s side failed to capitalise on Chelsea’s poor result on Boxing Day and was left to rue the two dropped points. Wenger was annoyed that his side surrendered their lead and has called for his side to start taking advantage of opportunities they are presented with.
Wenger said: ‘There are going to be a lot of twists and turns (in the season), but unfortunately, we could not take advantage of that. What we have to learn is that when we are 1-0 up, in some departments, we cannot be too comfortable. I felt we lost our way a bit in between 30 and 40 minutes and on that occasion, we were caught. The only thing we can learn is to keep the spirit and, when you’re 1-0 up, keep your level up.’
Arsenal now face Queens Park Rangers on New Year’s Eve away at Loftus Road and need three points in that game to keep pressure on the top four. Wenger’s side face Fulham at the Emirates Stadium in their first game of 2012.
