Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility of bringing Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff to North London in January, Sky
The French international has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium repeatedly and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claimed that Arsenal made a bid in the summer transfer window. The 25 year old midfielder has stated his intentions of making the Euro 2012 squad for his country and is content with life at OL.
Wenger will not sign Gourcuff due to the depth of his midfield. Despite the Frenchman’s qualities, Wenger believes that Gourcuff will not trouble the midfield places that the likes of Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey and the returning Jack Wilshere will hold. The Gunners boss has reserved praise for Gourcuff however and believes people in France treat him with a lack of respect.
‘He is a player I like a lot and I believe people have been very critical towards him in France. However, we won’t be in the winter market for any midfield positions considering that our players are back from injuries’, Wenger said.
