Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal’s younger players will gain a lot of experience from their 3-1 defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday night, The
Wenger handed starts to youngsters Emmanuel Frimpong, Francois Coquelin and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Gunners’ final match of the group stages.
Defensive errors followed by a blunder by goalkeeper Vito Mannone lead to the Premier League side’s defeat but Wenger is confident that the players can learn from the match and insists the experience gained will prove invaluable in the future.
He said: “It was a fantastic experience they realise what intensity that you need at this level and some young players have shown good things. But there was a bit of lack of experience and maturity in midfield where you need to hold the ball better when we were under pressure.”
