Wenger tells Henry to keep playing

Arsene Wenger believes that former Arsenal player Thierry Henry should keep playing as long as he can, arsenal.com reports.

Henry made a return to the Emirates Stadium to see the unveiling of a commemorative statue of himself for the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations. The New York Red Bulls star has been tipped to make a move into management and whilst Wenger believes that he has all the capabilities of becoming a good manager, the Frenchman wants Henry to focus on playing.

Wenger said: ‘Let him first be a player – his career is not over. After that, you have to learn the job. It is like any other job. You need to learn the team, how to handle people. You do not stop being a player and become a manager the next day. It doesn’t work like that.’

The Arsenal boss has opened the door for Henry to return to Arsenal to complete his coaching. Wenger also indicated that being a great player does not necessarily make someone a fantastic manager. Henry will be at the Emirates Stadium for today’s fixture against Everton.
