Jack Wilshere has backed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for the England job when Fabio Capello gives up the reins, Metro
The Arsenal midfielder is making his way back from an injury suffered in pre-season and is hoping to regain both his club and England place. Wilshere was quizzed on who he would like to take over as Three Lions boss when Capello leaves next summer and immediately plumped for his Arsenal boss. Many have called for Spurs manager Harry Redknapp to be next in charge, but Wilshere has backed Wenger to do a good job for England.
Wilshere said: ‘Arsene Wenger wouldn’t be a bad thing for England. He proves it every year. He and Sir Alex Ferguson are the best managers in the league and, if the boss at Arsenal wanted the job with England, I’d be delighted with that’.
It is highly unlikely that Wenger would take on the position as England manager, but with speculation over his future at the club following a frank interview with L’Equipe, Wenger may decide to move into international management. Wilshere also called for Wayne Rooney to be in the Euro 2012 squad, despite his two match ban following a red card against Montenegro.
