Allen hoping Tottenham vs Man City will be excellent

Tottenham assistant coach Clive Allen has predicted that Sunday’s clash with Manchester City will be a ‘cracker’ and believes his side have a chance, tottenhamhotspur.com reports. Allen spent two years at City between 1989 and 1991 and has welcomed the challlenge Spurs face against his former side.

City inflicted a 5-1 defeat upon Spurs at White Hart Lane early in the season and Harry Redknapp’s men will be keen to correct that loss. A win at the Etihad Stadium would see Tottenham draw within two points of City and Spurs have the capablities to do so, having lost just once in their last 19 games. City have a perfect league record at home and Allen acknowledges the difficulty of the task ahead.

Allen said: ‘We always want to control a game as well with possession but you know with the quality City have, we will come under pressure as well. We’ll have to defend particularly well. It’s all set-up up for a fantastic game. You’d expect goals with the quality of the attacking players on show from both teams. There will be a lot of excitement and I can see it being a real cracker’.

Spurs may have to travel to the Etihad Stadium without their captain Ledley King, but Redknapp has not ruled out the chances of King making an appearance. The defender has missed the last six for the North Londoners after picking up a hamstring injury over the Christmas period and will be assessed today ahead of the game.
