Arsenal in talks to sign Eisfeld

Arsenal were in negotiations with German champions Borussia Dortmund over a move for playmaker Thomas Eisfeld, The Telegraph reports. The 19 year old has progressed through the academy at Dortmund, but is out of contract in the summer and will cost Arsenal £600,000.

Eisfeld is expected to develop initially below the first team and then make the gradual progression into Arsene Wenger’s plans. The 19 year old suffered a serious knee injury in 2009, but has made his comeback and has caught the eye of the North London club. With his contract running to an end this summer, Dortmund have been looking to make money on Eisfeld and Arsenal are interested.

Subject to a medical, which may be tricky considering his long-term problems, the German attacking midfielder should complete the deal before the transfer deadline. Eisfeld was in London yesterday along with agent Reza Fazeli to discuss terms and Wenger is excited at the prospect of signing the highly rated Dortmund man.

With six goals in 12 matches in the Dortmund under 19’s, the club had hoped to keep Eisfeld and agree a new deal, but Arsenal pounced for a compensation deal. The 19 year old will hopefully be confirmed as an Arsenal player at the end of the day and could feature in a reserve team fixture against Swansea on Wednesday.
