Arsenal receive injury boost over Sagna

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has received a big injury boost with the revelation that right back Bacary Sagna could be in line to return against Aston Villa today, Sky Sports reports. Sagna has been ruled out for several months after breaking his leg in the derby loss against Tottenham in October.

The French defender has been one of a number of injury worries to hit the Arsenal backline and they have spent a lengthy time without a registered first team full back. Arsenal had young Nico Yennaris at right back for the second half against Manchester United last weekend and Wenger will be delighted with the news of Sagna’s return. The 28 year old has rehabilitated successfully and could force his way into the squad for the game against Villa.

Wenger said: ‘Bacary is back in full training. Many players who are not specialist right-backs have been playing in this position so we are relieved to have him back. At the moment, many players are on their way back. I’ll have to look at them and see how much of a gamble I can take because we play again on Wednesday.’

Kieran Gibbs will not play against Villa, but there are a number of returning players for the fourth round tie. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered an injury setback in training and has been sent for another scan by Wenger. The Arsenal boss hopes the England international will be back for February’s Champions League fixture with AC Milan and has not written off his season.
