Arsenal target Dortmund striker Barrios

Arsenal are in the hunt for Borussia Dortmund’s Lucas Barrios, according to Goal.com.

Brazilian Barrios, 27, has made 75 appearances for Dortmund since joining in 2009, scoring 35 goals. He also has 21 international caps for Paraguay, in which he has scored 6 goals. Despite his apparent free-scoring ability, he has made only 12 appearances for Dortmund this season, without scoring a single goal, and as a result has fallen out of favour with the club.

Barrios cost Dortmund £3.6 million in 2009, but reports suggest that the asking price for the striker could now be £9 million. Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland are all thought to be showing an interest, but Dortmund’s Sporting Director Michael Zorc would only respond with, “We do not comment on speculation” when pressed.

Barrios could add to Arsenal’s striking options, with Gervinho currently away at the African Cup of Nations, Marouane Chamakh misfiring, and Thierry Henry due to return to his parent club New York Red Bulls at the end of February.
