Arsenal want van Persie junior to join youth set-up

Robin van Persie has revealed that Arsenal want his five year old son to join their youth training ranks, The Guardian reports.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to keep the Dutchman in his side at the end of the season and believes that offering the younger Van Persie a place in the Arsenal training academy will enable the Gunners significantly. Shaqueel, who has shown great promise in football and golf, plays for a team close to the Van Persie family home. The Arsenal captain has been so impressed with his son’s form that he is keeping him out of the Gunners for the moment and with his current coach.

Van Persie said: ‘I honestly have to say that he has got a lot of talent for football. I recognise a lot of stuff of myself in him. His coach is really great. Arsenal have invited him a couple of times to come and play there, but he likes it at his club. He’s sensitive for a good atmosphere, just like me.’

The Gunners captain is in prolific goalscoring form so far this season and has quelled contract talks until the summer with Arsenal. Wenger is desperate to hold on to the 28 year old and keep him out of the hands of Manchester City and Barcelona. Van Persie is enjoying his football at the Emirates Stadium, but failure to qualify for the Champions League this term may force a move away from North London.
