Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has asked for the club’s fans to keep the faith with Arsene Wenger and trust that he will be the right man for success, Metro
The former Everton midfielder joined Arsenal last summer and has impressed in the Gunners midfield alongside Welsh captain Aaron Ramsey. Arteta has recovered from the calf injury that kept him out of the game against United and will start against Aston Villa in today’s fourth round FA Cup tie. Arsenal have not won a trophy since their FA Cup victory in 2005, which has caused more unrest from Arsenal fans.
Arteta is hoping that the club can win a trophy to ease worries in the Emirates Stadium and believes that Wenger is the man to win them a trophy. Arsenal are still challenging in the Champions League and have the chance to win the FA Cup after Manchester City and Manchester United were eliminated.
The Spanish midfielder said: ‘Wenger is a master psychologist and always tells us the key points to improve our level. He insists this squad can do more on the field. Wenger is very important to Arsenal – I have seen that since my first day at the club, and the players are very united with the boss. I understand that the fans were shouting and have been unhappy with results, but I would ask for patience and for them to continue with their support. For the players and the club, that is key.’
