Brighton target Man Utd striker

Manchester United striker Michael Owen could be the subject of an ambitious bid from Championship play-off hopefuls Brighton, according to The Daily Mail.

Owen, 32, has spent much of his Manchester United career on the sidelines, with just 31 appearances and 5 goals to his name since making the move to Old Trafford in 2009. This season has seen just four starts for Owen, who has been out of action with a thigh injury since the beginning of November. Even once he recovers full fitness, his opportunities are likely to be limited, with the emergence of Danny Wellbeck pushing him further down the pecking order.

Brighton, currently 10th in the Championship and two points off the play-off places, are in the hunt for a proven goalscorer to spearhead their push for the remainder of the season, and boss Gus Poyet is hopeful of persuading Owen to relocate from Manchester and help the south-coast club in their attempt to reach the Premier League.
