Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is poised to make his full England debut next month after his scintillating display against Manchester United last weekend, The
The 18 year old assisted Arsenal forward Robin van Persie for his goal in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United and Arsenal fans were unhappy that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger substituted him for Andrey Arshavin. Capello wants to play the 18 year old against Holland on February 26th and is hoping that Wenger plays Oxlade-Chamberlain more regularly to give him the chance to make his England debut. Arsenal paid £15m for Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer from Southampton and his performance against the Premier League champions gave hints of Wenger making a good investment.
A source close to Capello said: ‘“Fabio has been impressed by him for a long time. From the first time he saw him he spotted he is potentially a very good player. We were always watching him with the Under-21s and he was amazing in every game. He was also impressive against Manchester United. The game against Holland is next month and for Fabio to select him he will need to play a bit more. Last Sunday was the first time he had been selected to start in the league, and obviously Fabio is very keen on him. There is more than a month before the friendly, so it depends on what happens at his club.’
Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has seen his performances dip over the last month, but the England boss is still keeping faith with Walcott. Capello is looking to build a formidable squad for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine in 2012 and also sees Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs as a potential player for England’s future, despite his injury.
