Carroll backing Liverpool for Champions League qualification

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll believes that his side are still well in contention to qualify for the Champions League, reports.

The Reds were held to their seventh home draw of the season against Stoke on Saturday and are five points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea. Carroll believes that the unpredictability of the campaign so far this season makes it impossible to predict what will happen. If the Reds can replicate their cup form and away form to Anfield performances, the former Newcastle man believes that his side will soon be back in top four contention.

Carroll said: ‘The league games are just as important as the cup games we’ve got to look forward to, because we want to stay in contention at the top end of the table. The objective is qualifying for the Champions League and we are up there and still in with a great chance of achieving that aim. I think it’s quite possible, especially when you consider some of the results that we have seen over the Christmas period’.

The £35m striker signed for Liverpool last January, but has failed to capture his best form in a Reds shirt so far. Carroll has praised the support of the Reds fans and believes it is only a matter of time before he starts to repay them. The big striker is in contention for a starting berth against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium next weekend.
