Chelsea hand out new contracts to youngsters

Chelsea have taken steps to ensuring the future of the club by handing new contracts to three young players, Sky Sports reports.

England under 19 international Nathaniel Chalobah, 18 year old George Saville and 20 year old Adam Phillip have all penned new deals with the club. Chalobah is the most high profile of the three and was on the bench against Wolves on Monday. The 17 year old defender has committed himself until 2014 and signs his first professional contract in the process.

Saville has signed a contract until 2015 and the 18 year old has played in all 13 of the side’s reserve league games this season. The Chelsea man can play at either left back or left midfield and has been tipped to challenge Ryan Bertrand for the left back slot at Stamford Bridge when Ashley Cole finishes with the Blues.

Former England under 17 international Phillip has extended his contract by another year. Phillip’s deal was due to run out in the summer, but Chelsea have moved to secure the 20 year old. Currently suffering with a long-term injury, Phillip will be delighted that his deal has been improved and Chelsea have some faith in him.
