Chelsea launch bid for Willian

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has offered Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk £20m for Brazilian midfielder Willian, according to The Daily Mail. The 23 year old is one of the best players at Shakhtar and has impressed in the last two seasons.

The skilful 23 year old shot to prominence with his performances in the Champions League and Willian, who can play wide left or just off the strikers, has been pivotal for Shakhtar. Willian has been a target for Arsenal also, but Chelsea look to have made the first move by offering £20m for the Shakhtar midfielder. Arsenal tried to sign Willian last summer, but were put off by the Ukrainian side’s valuation.

Blues chairman Roman Abramovich is interested in financing the deal, but the Ukrainian side do have a valuation of £30m for the Brazilian. Villas-Boas believes he can bargain down to his reported £20m offer and the Portuguese boss insists that the extra pace and flair Willian holds will be worth the transfer fee.

Lille playmaker Eden Hazard has also become a target for the West Londoners, but a move for Willian could stop any potential transfer for the Belgian. Hazard’s transfer valuation is substantially more than Willian’s and the Belgian has declared his interest in a move to Real Madrid, as opposed to Stamford Bridge.
