Dalglish frustrated after Stoke draw

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish admits that he was left frustrated by the Reds’ failure to break down a stubborn Stoke City defence at Anfield on Saturday, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

The Reds succumbed to their seventh home draw of the season with a 0-0 against a strong Stoke side and now leave themselves in sixth place and five points away from the Champions League places. If Newcastle beat QPR today, Liverpool will slip to seventh, which is a position some of the Reds’ performances have not merited. Liverpool’s problem all season has been scoring goals and the Reds failed to hit the net again, leaving Dalglish frustrated.

Dalglish said: ‘They came here to go away with a point and they got a point. The responsibility was on us to break them down, but we didn’t manage to do that. The couple of opportunities we did have, we never took and in a game like that, you’ve got to take your opportunities. There was nothing wrong with the players’ effort or determination, but on the day, we just weren’t good enough to break them down’.

Liverpool came into the game off the back of a 1-0 win away at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City in the Carling Cup semi-final and Dalglish made five changes to the side that beat City. Dalglish confirmed that Daniel Agger was left out as a precautionary measure and the club were lucky to play Jose Enrique, who had a stomach virus.
