Newcastle United defender Danny Simpson believes former club Manchester United can bounce back and retain their Premier League crown, Sky
Simpson helped Newcastle to a 3-0 win at the Sports Direct Arena on Wednesday and inflicted a second successive defeat on his former manager. The 25 year old also helped Newcastle to a controversial point at Old Trafford earlier in the season with a brilliant goalline clearance. Simpson spent seven years at United before making his move to Newcastle and has emerged as one of the best right backs in the Premier League.
The former United man insists it would be foolish to write off his former side, despite them slipping to three points behind Manchester City in the title race. Simpson expects that the title race will go right down to the final few fixtures and is tipping his old club to come through with the glory.
Simpson said: ‘They’ve dropped three points behind City, so they’ll be gutted. They’ve had setbacks and I’m sure they’ve lost two on the bounce before, but they’ll be even more up for it going to City at the weekend looking to put a marker down on them. Sir Alex has been in that situation before and I’m sure he’ll be fine. If you write Man United off, you’re asking for trouble, aren’t you? They are a top class team.’
