The Spaniard was signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer for £18m, but has started shakily in his time at United. De Gea was at fault for Blackburn’s winner on New Year’s Eve at Old Trafford and does not see his place guaranteed for Wednesday’s game against Newcastle. The Spanish goalkeeper has spoken of how happy he is at United and wants a prolonged stay with the club. De Gea has spoken about former United goalkeeper Van der Sar and wants to surpass what the Dutchman did for United.
