Ferguson lauds praise upon Manchester rivals

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Manchester City’s start to the Premier League campaign, labelling their first half of the season as ‘fantastic’. City lie top of the league with 48 points from 20 games, three points ahead of second place Manchester United and third placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Ferguson told the Guardian that Manchester City provide a different challenge to tital rivals of the past like Arsenal and Chelsea: “The main difference I can see this season is that City have amassed a bigger points total than Chelsea or Arsenal would normally have managed by this stage. Their first half of the season was fantastic, and the way it’s going we could be looking at something approaching 90 points to win this league.”

However Ferguson does not expect to City to replicate their first half of the season in the remaining 18 games of the season: “Points will be dropped along the way, I always say that.”
