Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that his club will be unable to wrestle Frank Lampard away from Chelsea, The
Ferguson is considering a sensational switch for the unsettled Blues midfielder and Lampard himself is not averse to a move away from Stamford Bridge. The England international has reportedly fallen out with Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas and could look to force a move to the Premier League champions. United are looking for something creative in midfield and despite his age, Lampard still offers the quality that Ferguson’s side are lacking.
The United boss said: ‘You are not going to tell me Chelsea would sell Frank Lampard to Manchester United in January. Do you really believe that? Chelsea are like us. They want to do something. The second half of the season is going to be important to them. If they want to try and win the league, they will need to have all their best players.’
United are looking for a new signing after their midfield was ravaged by injuries. Ferguson could get Lampard if he made his intentions known, as the Chelsea midfielder is unhappy with the current Blues regime. At 33, Lampard may fancy the chance of moving to Old Trafford and United would be delighted to secure his services short-term whilst Ferguson figures out a player on a long-term deal.
