Forest confirm Bamford bid from Chelsea

Championship side Nottingham Forest have confirmed Chelsea have made a £1.5m bid for teenage starlet Patrick Bamford, Sky Sports reports. The 18 year old has made only two substitute appearances for Forest, but Chelsea have seen enough to make a seven figure bid.

Forest boss Steve Cotterill expects Bamford to make a move away from the club and is not keen to sign a new deal, despite the offers from Forest. Other clubs have declared their interest in Bamford, but Chelsea seem to be the frontrunners and are expected to seal the deal later today.

Cotterill said: ‘There has been a bid for him from Chelsea, it is for £1.5m. The problem we have is that Patrick has been offered a couple of contracts now. And I am not sure Patrick will sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest. We are going to have a meeting to decide where that goes. What materialises, we will find out shortly.’

Bamford has played only 12 minutes in the first team, but has impressed in the Forest academy and has nine goals in his last two appearances. If he is signed, he will become Chelsea’s third signing of the window following Gary Cahill’s move from Bolton and Kevin De Bruyne’s transfer from Belgian side Genk.
